Here’s a question raised by the Heilemann and Halperin revelations about the moral squalor of the John Edwards campaign:
A distinguished roster of Republicans and conservatives were willing to speak out in real time against the Palin nomination to vice president.
Yet none of the many Democrats who knew or suspected the truth about John Edwards were willing to do the same. Worse: knowing the truth, they were willing to work to squelch it.
Not a nice story.

No one should expect the political party of TeddieKennedy and SlickWilly to have any problem with a big name pol getting a little tail whenever possible –it’s probably what Democrats do best, afterall. TeddieK did it notoriously while schlepping around in his boxers at the Kennedy compound in FLA; SlickWilly did it with interns and vulnerable women inside the WH, inside the AR mansion, inside the trooper’s cruiser, inside the seedy hotel, at the trailer park, etc.
Like with the Harry Reid scandal over racist remarks, Democrats aren’t interested in holding their own to the same standards they’ve used on their political opponents. John Edwards is one of the Democrat Party’s poster boys… he’s Breck’ishly youthful, he’s a trial lawyer scumbag, he’s articulate for a light skinnned white boy and he feeds at the union trough.
What’s not to like?
Democrats will tolerate any scumbag if it’s THEIR scumbag with a purpose. Anyone remember all those Democrats calling for Elliot Spitzer to stay? He had no purpose; he was expendable on the temporary and new altar of Democrats Against Corruption… that altar got pitched in 2009. The Democrats protected Edwards just like they protected the Kennedys, the Clintons and all the rest. It’s like expecting the main stream media to suddenly find courage to call into a question a fellow reporter on the Left… it just isn’t done. It isn’t in their values set.

As has been pointed out, there’s lots of immorality on both sides, but I think a distinction should be drawn between Gov. Sanders in South Carolina and Edwards (or other cheaters).
I believe Sanders fell in love with his mistress and really wanted to start a new life with her. That’s unfortunate, maybe even more hurtful to his existing wife and no less an act of adultery, but I do believe that this is not as bad as being a serial philanderer.

Why weren’t they ready to speak out against Biden? The comparison of Sarah Palin, wife and mother, to John Edwards is ridiculous. Game Change gives plenty of ammunition to the untold story of Joe Biden’s unsuitability to the office he holds. On Palin, it quotes Schmidt and avowed enemy of hers. Where are the anti-Biden Democrats.

Unfortunately, Edwards aide was neither. He was loyal to Edwards to a fault.
“…where was the media”
That should’ve really been the title of the book!
