W.H. Social Secretary Snubs Congress, Blabs at Bar

The White House party crashers debacle apparently hasn’t ruffled Desiree Rogers feathers or slowed her stride.  About 9:00pm Friday night a friend and I dropped by the Ritz Carlton hotel bar at 22nd and M Street for a drink and spotted the infamous Social Secretary seated at a corner table with a girlfriend engaged in animated conversation. We parked ourselves at a table across from hers and put our hearing into high gear. Desiree and her friend were sharing a bottle of Veuve Clicquot, an expensive French champagne and to our surprise didn’t seem to care if people could overhear their conversation. (Not exactly the discretion one would expect from the White House Social Secretary who’s been in the media hot seat all week.)

Around 10:00pm a young man, who looked about 22 and had been sitting at the bar within earshot of the two, approached Rogers and engaged her in conversation about, you guessed it, Crashergate. I over-heard Rogers say “I think we are pushing the envelope on what that job means.”  My friend and I raised an eyebrow or two and couldn’t believe what we were witnessing. Rogers was talking very publically about an event about which she refused to testify about before Congress. My friend overheard her tell him it was more important for her “to experience the experience of the guests at the event,” which is why she sat at a table. But she was too absorbed in the guest experience to notice the Salahis had crashed their way into the White House state dinner to join the 400 invited guests.

When the young man exited the bar, I followed him out and asked him about his talk with Desiree. He said he went up to speak to her because he was from Chicago and his parents worked for CBS and ABC News.  He also said he overheard her talking about the crashers with her friend and she “was clearly agitated about it.”

He added Desiree “was pretty blasé” about the whole incident and didn’t appear to be worried about it at all. He said “she’s obviously insulated from the whole thing and clearly her job is protected.” He told me she reiterated she’s trying to push the envelope on what the job [social secretary] means. As we ended our brief chat, he told me he had attended events like the state dinner and thought nothing was wrong with her sitting down.

When I returned to the bar, Rogers and her friend were preparing to leave. As Rogers gathered her purse, she exclaimed to her friend, “my house is a mess!” It sure is and the best way to start cleaning it up is to stop being the center of attention.

Ok, this is the last time I respond to you.

I get that you like the blood sport of trading notes and insults. A lot of people on the interwebs do.

I come here for different reasons – I’m interested in what other people have to say, and I’m interested in other arguments. The problem with you, as far as I’m concerned, is that you basically run off people like me – it’s too much work and not enough fun to slog through your obsession.

If anyone, anyone else has a thought about this piece, good, bad or otherwise, I’m interested.

And one final thing, MI-GOPer: I stand by my words. I publicly identify myself whenever and where ever I post because, among other things, it takes away the protection that lets one just snark and snark, for the hell of it.

I invite you to publish your real name and town, and post under it.

    Satkinsn,

Ignore him, I do. There are others here who have come for similar reasons. Stay; eventually the people who actually want to talk will drown out the ones who have a hard time not emoting constantly and displaying their manufactured outrage.

Well, even though the whole thing seems like small beans I do like Otto’s “Chrystal who has with this little National Inquirer foray forever positioned herself a rather shallow woman.”

She’s a weird choice of the ss gig, which requires a certain amount of grace and tact.

Whoops. Obviously got my characters mixed up and misread O’s intent.

“Whoops. Obviously got my characters mixed up and misread O’s intent. ”

…..I’m not sure I understand this but surely the only sensible way to respond to this trivia from a deeply shallow (now there’s an oxymoron) woman is with ridicule…..it’s the same way I suggest you deal with our own little Emily Post who pines for WH invites and daily adds new dimensions to the term fatuous

….I also agree with your earlier comments about anonymity and the cover it provides for totally fatuous ranting

I misread your post the first time through, and thought you were talking about the social secretary when you wrote “with this little National Inquirer foray forever positioned herself a rather shallow woman.”

After I posted, I caught my mistake – you were referring to the writer of the piece. Sorry to add to the noise of the thread with my confusion.

Anonymity is a funny thing – in places like Iran you gotta have it, and it can be important in this country. It’s just that some people *really* change when they don’t have to account for what they say.

“It’s just that some people *really* change when they don’t have to account for what they say.”

…….True….. but in the case of our Emily I suspect that under the cyberspace jackass on display there’s a genuine jackass……..like you I think sometimes the discussion here is quite good so it’s worth putting up with the inanity from some

    So that’s it?

Just short of 5 dozen counter posts from more than a few far Left multiple characters posting under various names?

I think that nails it then. You stuck to the du jour talking point about this article… namely, David Frum is failing to make this blog reputable to the far Left by posting items that don’t reflect well upon Obama Messiah. Snaring another fractious little underling on the Obama Bus wheels isn’t gonig to happen to the far Left’s Desiree Rogers! The Left has lost too many soldiers under the Obama Bus and it sure ain’t a’happening to Miss Desiree.

It’s a shame that the Left picks the least defensible idiots to defend the strongest. Desiree will be tossed under the Obama Bus before her drycleaning comes back from the Copenhagen Beer Summit. It’s just how men like Obama work –loyalty has no currency in his regime. It’s all “what can you do for me now”.

The answer for Desiree is “nothing”. *poof* She doesn’t even know she’s toast yet. And all she was doing was being a Celebrity gal for the Celebrity in Chief.

Scott offers: “And one final thing, MI-GOPer: I stand by my words. I publicly identify myself whenever and where ever I post because, among other things, it takes away the protection that lets one just snark and snark, for the hell of it”.

I was thinking your comments are mostly snark as it is –the name doesn’t help or hinder you evidently. As for your claim it’s really your name –that one’s been tried here before and it didn’t carry the day, either. You could be rbottoms or mr jingles for all we know –it’s a hollow gesture at best.

I’ve already indicated in other threads I live in blue-blue-blue Ann Arbor. And that gets us what? Openness? Candor? Credibility? Proof of sincerity? Nope.

Answer the question: why is a far Left democrat like you on a blog that is solely dedicated to rebuilding the conservative movement and returning the GOP to majority party status?

I know… you care. I feel the BigHugHealing us as we speak. N-o-t.

  • MI-GOPer

Well, it didn’t take all that long and the far Left democrat activists have fired up the smear machine and started typing out the Obama Enemies List for anyone who dare question the WH on the more important issue of why a networking glamor gal hack is Obama’s SS.

After a disasterously bad exchange bewteen WH SpoEx Robert Gibbs and black WH reporter April Ryan, the Left came out firing 55 cals.

Over at SFGate, longtime political hack and social celeb in his own right Z-Abraham picked up the rifle from RobbieGibbs (the Pillsbury Dough Boi) and took aim at natl reporter April Ryan for Round 2 that has Cheney envious of this BlunderBuss (sorry AnnieM, you ain’t the only one with a BlunderBuss on the Left)…

Mr Z-Abraham snears: “In my view, April Ryan is being what we in the African American professional community call a “crabbarel”: a black person who wants to take down another black person because the target has reached some level of fame.”

And who thought Obama’s Celebrity Gal Miss Desiree would be worthy of all this shame… errr, publicity…. errr, attention.
