@sinz:

"War is the committing of immoral acts–mass killing and mass destruction–in pursuit of a higher purpose. That makes it difficult for democracies which actually have something like a collective conscience. But that doesn’t make it any less necessary at times."

This might suprise you, but there is a difference between the Fog of War and sociopathic genocide. Really.

Don't act silly and pretend "Teh Liberals" are all atwitter because there are guns and bombs and they just can't handle how hard a manly war is. Longest war in our history, and we're still not winning. Drop the "you aren't man eought to handle war". Yes, you're very brave and tough. It it makes you feel better I completely believe you're willing to sit here bleeding forever, because you are just that macho. You'll never give up ever, even if you waste a thousand years for no reason other than hubris. You've convinced me. You win.

Can we go home now?

There's a childlike petulance among some folks on the antiwar Left about war.

Leaving aside those on the hard-core Left who simply oppose all U.S. wars anytime anywhere, the remainder seem genuinely disturbed that secrecy, propaganda, and covert operations are essential parts of any war. And that in war, your allies don't always come up to your high moral standards.

I've been seriously considering writing a diary for Frum Forum on "The Dirty World War II," which shows some of the seamier and dirtier things the United States did in that war in order to win it. Few on the Left or Right seriously argue that the U.S. was wrong to win that war (though Noam Chomsky and Pat Buchanan come pretty close to that). But perhaps due to the poor way that history is taught in school, few know some of the less positive things the U.S. did to win that war.

If none of the usual diarists on FrumForum will publish one, may I? I would like to know in advance, because I don't want to have to do all that research and work just to have my diary rejected--again.
