The Invention of Pakistan

November 18th, 2009 at 2:26 pm by David Frum | 2 Comments |

After the 9/11 attacks, thousands of Americans turned to the great historian of Islam Bernard Lewis for insight into the sources of the terrorists’ rage. Lewis’s account naturally emphasized the story of Arab and Turkish Islam, his supreme areas of expertise. As a result, South Asia tended to get rather short shrift.

Yet the terrorism with which we all contend has its origins as much in the failures of the invented state of Pakistan as in the Arab Middle East. Our friend Kapil Komireddi has returned from traveling inside Pakistan. Yesterday, he introduced us to the crisis in Pakistan. Today in part 2 of his series, he tells how Pakistan’s instability may be encoded in the state’s very origins.

i’m awaiting the next set of lies out of the obama white house on pakistan… and i’m sure they’re coming. if they could invade pakistan, i think obama would just to look presidential again.

last week we had davey alexrod trying to peddle the lie that obama is getting frustrated at all the dithering about deciding what to do in afghanistan. wow, was that a prime piece of projection?

then obama tried to preempt congressional investigations into his team’s failure to avert the ft hood massacre and stem the untoward effects of obama’s policy of political correctness for terrorists. “i hope none of my opponents will use this occasion for political purposes” and then obama runs off to ft hood to use it for political stagecraft. at least it went better for obama than dover did, right?

then obama tried to tell us that his asian apology tour would actually amount to something even though china said no to any global warming restraints, no to any more bailouts of washington, no to fencing in the north koreans, no to helping the world tack down the iranian nuke threat and no to opening up china to the internet.

we’ve got a pretty successful presidential trip there, no? obama couldn’t get china to even sit down for a fake treaty signing ceremony for any reason whatsoever.

gee, the way obama was treating china, i thought he might think they were our allies? he treats most of them with callous disregard and dissembling. now he treats china the same way… i thought obama liked communists –at least that’s what bill ayers and reverend wright said.

……..would you like to give us a list of the lies they have so far published about Pakistan?……..I won’t hold my breath waiting for an answer since the second part of your sentence not to mention the subsequent paras suggests your contact with reality is tenuous at best
