From February 4, in the Chicago Tribune’s “Clout Street” blog:
“Daley mum on stimulus project list“
Mayor Richard Daley said today Chicago has compiled a wish list of “shovel-ready projects” to spend federal economic stimulus funds should Congress approve them.
Unlike hundreds of other cities, however, Daley said Chicago won’t make its list public.
“Yes, we do, we have our list, we’ve been talking to people. We did not put that out publicly because once you start putting it out publicly, you know, the newspapers, the media is going to be ripping it apart,” Daley said.

Can’t blame the man. Many are getting tired of watching the politicos gauge size with the media more than happy to showcase their stupidity.
But we could all be like those who say we are not in a repression! That’s the ticket we can all live in some alternate reality!
Or we could be adult and demand that both sides stop the show casing and get to work to come up with something that does not put Goverment in my front room.

Reading this update, bring to mind this excellent analysis of Japan’s “lost decade” by Russ Roberts:

Every dollar that gets handed to Daley is a wasted dollar. And where is the vaunted Democratic transparency? Chicago is a Banana Republic. Someone will leak the list, and I hope it turns up on NM.
