BreitbartSteele Steele to Co Headline Event With BreitbartTalking Point Memo has uncovered a document which shows that RNC Chairman Michael Steele and media activist Andrew Breitbart are expected to be co-headliners at a fundraiser:

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has a party fundraising event coming up in August that is scheduled to feature a very special guest: Conservative media activist Andrew Breitbart, according to a copy of the invitation exclusively obtained by TPM.

The fundraising event, billed as an “Election Countdown,” will take place from August 12-14 in Beverly Hills, California, and will also feature other politicians such as California Lt. Gov. Abel Maldonado, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, and Nevada Republican gubernatorial nominee Brian Sandoval. Steele and Breitbart are scheduled to co-headline a welcome reception on the first evening, August 12.

It’s certainly some odd timing for the RNC to be working closely with Breitbart, who, of course, has made headlines recently for circulating a video clip of then-Department of Agriculture official Shirley Sherrod, an African-American, seeming to tell a story about how she would not help a white farmer who was down on his luck 24 year ago. Sherrod was quickly forced to resign last week. And as it turned out, the full video showed that Sherrod was telling a story about how she ultimately did not discriminate against the farmer — that this was a great turning point in her own personal story of race relations in the South — and she did help him. Indeed, the farmer himself has come forward to defend her and discuss their lasting friendship.

    When David Frum wrote that the Breitbart scandal wouldn’t effect the Conservatives or Republicans at all I figured he was probably right but hoped he was exaggerating; this shows that he was not. They have no shame.

    Is this just a ploy by Steele to get a name on the invitation with less credibility than his own?

    What it makes me think is how much more can they use and abuse Steele? Granted he lacks credibility but not least because of what he allows them to do to him, what untenable positions he is put in where he has to defend racist tactics. Steele has been used so much by the GOP as a symbol of their diversity, I suppose nothing should surprise me at this point. But to team up with Breitbart now, is really bottom of the barrel. Whether this was planned in advance or just put together, its horrendous and won’t fool anyone. Why is the GOP too weak to kick out Breitbart?

    There’s a pretty big number of frothing-at-the-mouth types who feel quite passionately that “The Right” is owed a bit of dirty journalism from all the perceived wrongs that the “mainstream media” has done to them over the years. If anything, they like this guy even more now that they know he’s an unethical prick.

    That pretty much says everything about their integrity.

    Why doesn’t the GOP just ditch Token and let the talk radio hosts & bloggers formally run the party since they already make the policy for them?

    And remember, any suspicion of a relationship between the GOP and the Macheavellian opportunist is nothing but baseless paranoia. How could you think that, baby? I ain’t got nothing to do with them! It’s all about you, and me. Sure the crazies party hard, and they’re sweet on the eyes, but the only reason we were both in that McDonalds was just a random coincidence. I know it happens alot, but baby its a small neighborhood! What do you want me to do? I got to drive 40 minutes for a Big Mac?!? C’mon darlin, y’know there ain’t nothing there.
    What’s that? You saw my dinner for two reservation with her? . . . See, that’s why I didn’t tell you. I knew you’d over-react!”

    Failing that, the next line of defense will be the baseless partisan Leftie attacks on Breitbart and the GOP drove them to each other. “Baby, it was totally a lie when you asked if I was doing Betty. That hurt me. Sure, you’ve come over to Betty’s apartment and we’re laying nekkid in bed, but that’s because your allegations gave me nowhere else to go. Nowhere else . . . to . . . go . . .”

    No connection. I’m just a paranoid Lefty. He said he wouldn’t cheat on me.

    Dumber and dumber. Steele and The Assassin leading the party to November.

    sigh.

  • Manix

    Steele must be overwhelmed with self-loathing not to recognize the nativism and xenophobia swirling through the GOP right now.

    @Manix:

    He’s got to know, right?
