Robert Gates, summoning Americans to the fight in Afghanistan.

Success there is not inevitable. But with the right strategy and the willingness to see it through, it is possible, and it is certainly worth the fight.

And yet, he is the only one in this administration and the last that gives Americans any confidence at all in their government. He is leaving in 2011. I doubt he can be convinced to stay longer and yet, that’s exactly what I would like him to do.

He is definitely not flashy, but dontcha have a just little more confidence in the DoD with him around?

I’ll write off most of Midcon’s comment as the hyperbole it is. This is a capable Administration. As for his evaluation of Gates I think most would agree. We will survive without him though. The Administration is not given to folly when it comes to appointments, and is likely to pick another sober, moderate head for the DOD.

LOL. Hyperbole? Well, sort of a slap and then a nod. Notice I said “gives Americans any confidence.” Care to opine on who else in the Administration gives Americans confidence at the moment?

Gibbs (like any Press Sec.) has a tough job, but man oh man, doth he not suck at it?

When it comes to ’summoning Americans’ to war, I prefer thoughtful, considered sobriety to save-the-world pulpit antics.

If that’s what you mean by ‘excitement’.

Billy Mays here with the super duper UltraSurge! It’ll make IEDs a thing of the past, and has this handy extension to take care of those hard to reach problem areas like Waziristan. And if you order now, we’ll give it to you for $50 million off…

No thanks. Competent and boring is just fine by me. :-)
