(The elevator system had been designed with large-capacity express elevators that went between the ground floor and the 78th floor; from there, local elevators operated along the way from the 78th floor to the top. ) The 2nd hijacked airliner, UA 175, plowed right through the 78th through the 85th floors of the South Tower, killing nearly everybody who was waiting for a Down elevator on the 78th floor Sky Lobby.
