Paladino Claims he is “Protecting” his Family

Talking Points Memo reports:

Carl Paladino’s campaign released a statement today regarding last night’s New York Post reporter-threatening incident, and defended the Republican gubernatorial nominee’s actions as “protecting his family.”

Paladino claims that Post Editor Fred Dicker was involved in sending photographers to take pictures of Paladino’s 10-year-old daughter, whom he had with a woman who is not his wife. The intrusion, the release said, makes the girl “susceptible to kidnapping or sexual predators.” It adds: “Endangering the safety of a 10-year-old child is repugnant.”

The release also calls questions about Paladino’s affairs “irrelevent,” since, as Paladino claims (without evidence), his Democratic opponent Andrew Cuomo has also had affairs:

We challenge Fred Dicker to ask Andrew Cuomo this question on the record, since it has been posed repeatedly to Carl Paladino: “Did you engage in extramarital relationships while you were married?” A simple “Yes” or “No” will suffice.

Mr. Dicker will not ask this question of Cuomo, nor will Andrew Cuomo answer it.

On the threats specifically, the Paladino camp said:

Mr. Dicker gets extra Cuomo Brownie Points by claiming Carl threatened him. Carl has used this exact word choice throughout this campaign and several times on Mr. Dicker’s radio show: he’ll take out this government. He’ll take out the bad guys. He’ll take out Sheldon Silver.

The TPM Poll Average shows Cuomo leading 52.8%-38.4%.

Hilarious that so many tea-nuts– most prominently Paladino– are denouncing Fred Dicker as a liberal!

When HRC was preparing to run for Senate in late ’99 her advisers specially prepared her for dealing with Dicker, knowing him to be a big voice in NY conservative media.

Dicker’s a serious hard-ass newspaperman of the old school. I’ll take him over Carl Paladino any day.

(Also, am I the only one who thinks Paladino sounds like Frank Rizzo from the Jerky Boys? Next time you see him on TV just close your eyes and think about it for a second.)

Another resident of the lunatic asylum that used to be the Republican party. Barry, Nelson, Hugh, and the boys are rolling in their graves. Threatening everyone in sight is not the way to get cooperation. The fact that he thinks he can take a baseball bat to the NY assembly show how little he knows about the legislative process. He is running for governor but he thinks is running for dictator.

When a republican in NY has the NY Post against him, then he is bound to lose. Paladino is one of the freakiest freaks of the year and New Yorkers will turn against him. I predict that Cuomo will win by at least 19 points. The upside of this for democrats is that the wave against Paladino could actually help in the Senate B race, where Gillibrand may benefit as a senate candidate from Cuomo’s coattails. She will win, but now I think she will win bigger.

In a full disclosure mode I worked for a gentleman who was the “target” of a New York Post “probe”. I have ZERO respect for the NY Post.

The exchage between Dicker and Paladino has only served to polarize both sides; actually making Palladino supporters more adamant in their loyalty.

Palladino has made two allegation about Mr Cuomo: an affair and bribery/impropriety when he was HUD Secretary. I’m waiting for credible proof of the allegations.

Paladino is doing well in upstate (where I live) BUT no matter if every county in upstate went for him, he stilll has to overcome the millions of voters in NY City.

Mark Rosenthal, even moreso, it could effect down ticket races as Paladino has such negative coattails he might drag down Republicans who can win.

There is zero evidence that the Post sent a photographer to take pictures through the woman’s house, or in fact anyone did, there were probably photogs taking pictures outside the house but I don’t believe it was the Post, and they denied it.

If he were interested in protecting his family, maybe the old fart would not have cheated on his wife. The guy is 64 and he has a 10 year old kid from an affair? Having an affair is bad enough, but not to use protection at his age is nuts.

And saying you are going to take out Albany is a far cry from telling an individual that you are going to take them out, just you wait and see. That is a terroristic threat and he should be prosecuted for it.

(Fade in with background teletype noises)

    THIS JUST IN !!!!

Paladino has issued a statement (@ approx 1200) he has no proof of Andrew Cuomo’s infidelity…

Go back to your normal programming

(Exit with sounds of crickets chirping)

PS What about the HUD improprieties ? What sort of credibility is the public going to give that allegation ?
