One More Thought on Beck-Palin

Last night I watched for a second time the Beck-Palin interchange over favorite founding fathers.

Go to slow-mo and here’s what you see:

When Palin tries to evade the question, Beck smiles broadly and says “bullcrap.” Palin frowns and looks downward, offended. She then blathers for another few seconds about diversity before hitting on the answer, “George Washington.” The conversation resumed, but thereafter things suddenly seem less cordial between the two.

Question: what do Palin’s costars really think of her? Beck is consigned to a pre-primetime slot in the Fox lineup. With O’Reilly secure, and if the 6 o’clock eastern slot is reserved for harder news, Beck has to be eyeing either Hannity’s or Sustern’s hour. Now though he suddenly has a rival for that time – and O’Reilly has to worry that Roger Ailes may have just hired another potential replacement.

Beck’s little jab – and Palin’s confused irritation – may foretell the suspicion, resentment, and outright antipathy that will accumulate through the network in the weeks ahead.

If you asked me who is my favorite Founder, I would have to say there were many outstanding minds among our Founding Fathers. I cannot pick one mind who stood out among the rest of them. The men I admire most are Ben Franklin, John Adams, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson because they all brought distinct ideas, thoughts, and debate to the table. So if I, like Palin, see the greatness in our founders as a collective and collaborate effort of thoughtfulness and analysis, does that makes me less intelligent than those who have a definitive response? I understand Palin’s hesitation to select just one man when the collective minds of all them produced a document which freed the human soul to soar to its own greatness. How quickly we criticize others without real thoughtfulness and so little tolerance. FTR, I’m not a Palin supporter nor a fan.

  • grayscot

communists-basher let me explain this in simple language that your small mind can understand. PALIN IS A MORON who fell into her life like a super ball player hits the jackpot and once she realized that she was WAY OUT OF HER LEAGUE she QUIT!!!!! I don’t remember the phrase as “when the going gets tough the tough quit”. I would love it if she was the nominee in 2012 Obama would crush her like a bug hitting the windshield of my car when I am driving 120. The debates would be hilarious and cringe worthy both at the same time.

Perhaps if she would have framed her answer in an intelligent manner as you did instead of her standard, “all of em,” she might have scored a few points. Maybe she couldn’t name them without googling first.

  • communists-basher

    grayscot:

    Palin quit for two reasons:
-stop the abuse of Alaska by Radical Progressive Liberal Socialist Fascists.
-free herself for a greater future

One can only be proud of what an Intelligent Individual like Palin did.

The Fact that she is a threat to people like you is another matter. Obama will not be able to rise from this point forward. His mistake (more precisely his Radical Advisers ) was: pushing too hard too openly(!) for Socialism. American are not Europeans, they are more free, they were not ready. The window of opportunity for Radicals is closing.

Let me tell you about another (secret) mistake Radicals made this time around: they over-estimated hate to Bush. It just wasn’t enough for most people to fall for Socialist Healthcare. Of course, Palin introduced cliche like ‘death panels’ helped … but it wasn’t the only thing. But it was enough to stimulate hate.

History always takes its turns – you’ll have another chance, guarantied … but not in your or mine life time.

    txanne:

Did it ever occur to you that questions like this can be considered abnoctious and inappropriate by many. I would get offended if interviewed for Vice President whose role is not reading magazines but take care of security and economy. Because it would sound like they take me for a 4-year old who doesn’t read. That is the Problem with you Liberals: you care too much about what’s written, what other people think … instead of caring how to protect your country and your loved ones.

Let me make it clear: this was a typical Progressive Liberal question designed to discredit an Intelligent, non-’elite’ Conservative in the eyes of other Progressive Liberals and drug-influenced Liberals and Moderates. McCain/Palin ticket lost with only a small percentage. So much for a great elite Liberal Intellectual like Obama.

Make no mistake, this was a political trap setup by Liberals. Why? Because in this free country magazines are biased!!! Some are left wing some are right wing, and there is nothing in the Middle. No matter what Palin would have answered it would have used against her. Answering with ‘NYT’ would make her a liar – Conservatives do not read NYT; answering ‘Wash. Times’ would make her a right-wing nut.

After that and other Liberal traps, and smear campaign were unleashed on Palin, she earned her RIGHT for revenge, and she did it GRACEFULLY by simply telling the TRUTH about the DEATH PANELS.

    God loves Palin!

  • communists-basher

Forgot to mention a main reason why McCain/Palin ticket lost …. Because McCain is a Liberal. Many conservatives I know only voted because Sarah was on the ticket. She got the applauds and the money, not McCain. That is another reason why Liberals hate her so much – she can Sell, and Sell on Conservative values!

Frum is making a mistake trying to discredit Palin. His ‘elite’ establishment status and Jewish unreasonable antagonism to Evangelicals making him incapable of recognizing Palin’s and McCain’s strengths and weaknesses.

As a Jewish myself, I see Evangelicals as the only TRUE friends of Israel. Whatever theological motivations they have, it only works FOR Israel.

Frankly, if Jesus will return and if he will walk on the streets of Jerusalem, I WILL CONVERT to CHRISTIANITY. Wouldn’t you, Frum?

Jewish Liberalism has helped Obama. Will they ever learn? They did nothing to save themselves from Nazis, they’re doing nothing to save themselves from Obama’s Socialism. Time for a ‘change’… or I will blame you, Liberal American Jews, for the destruction of Israel. After all, you installed Emanuel and Axelrod who use dictatorship to push Israel into a self-destruction by agreeing on creation of Palestinian State. Did it ever occur to you that Israel is a free country and knows best what is best for herself…? Did it ever occur to you that your elected Obama is pushing us Americans into Obamacare just as those two disgraceful Jews pushing Israel. Did it ever occur to you that we, free American Individuals, know best what is best for us. Or all of you are of that Joe Maher Liberal Fascist, idiot type who said that Americans are stupid and need to be ‘drugged’ (by your hair) into Obamacare?

  • anniemargret

communistbasher: “anniemargret, you’re mistaken Intelligence for Intellectuality.”

What in heaven’s name are you talking about? ALL professors are liberals? ALL don’t believe in God? Every university professor should now be ignored or facts ignored in science because they don’t adhere to your religious test?

Should all Jews be converted? Should all agnostics and atheists cower and hide? Where are you going with this?

I am a left of center liberal/Dem and I believe in God. I know many, many liberals that go to church and believe in God. But I don’t want a litmus test for the Presidency to see how many times a candidate can “God-talk.” Jesus Himself said when you pray, pray where no one can see you.

Are you as critical of Newt Gingrich as you are about Obama or any other ‘intellectual’ from the left? Are you aware he is a professor? Oh, wait…I see they hypocrisy here . It is only Democratic ‘intellectuals’ you dislike because it is based on God. In other words, you’re standards for the Presidency is that they are Republican, OK for the professor if they are, but not for the Democrat, but they must believe in God. Where is Newt on God? I don’t think he speaks God-talk at all when he speaks politically.

There are many good candidates Republicans have, both intelligent and educated on issues, and they are now being thrust aside because they are of the ‘wrong religion’ or are too ‘liberal’ meaning they don’t God Talk (McCain?)

Let me repeat again, but I am speaking only for myself here: I want my President to stay within the confines of the Constitution, which separation of church and state. I do not want a religious litmus test for the Presidency. I can vote for an American citizen be he or she of any faith, or no faith. I expect him or her to abide by our Constitution and what the Founding Fathers wanted for this country (which means Separation of Church and State!) I want him or her to be articulate when he or she speaks . No one should be scratching their heads after the candidate speaks saying, “what did he/she just say?” I want him or her to be adequately educated in American history without having to be ‘tutored’ or assisted in answering questions.

And I want the potential candidate, be it a Republican or Democrat, to avail him/herself of open press interviews, with the ability to answer the press questions that all candidates have and should answer. Yes, it’s a test. We test people for corporate positions. We should ‘test’ the candidates as well.

    Good Grief.

  • neomom

As Glenn Beck stated after the interview – Sarah Palin is one of the most guarded people he has ever met, her shields are higher and thicker than anyone. And who could blame her.

She is trying to parse every word before she says it. It is obvious if you watch her while she is talking.

Her dialect is very “upper midwest”. Think ND, SD, MN, northern WI, and the UP of MI. It just is. And has very little to do with intelligence. Just like a drawl is part of the south.

As far as education goes. As someone who changed colleges a couple of time as she ran out of money and changed majors but eventually made it through a small private school for her BA and a state university for her Masters…. The Ivy League is over-rated. We have had nothing but smooth talkers and Ivy-Leaguers in charge since damn-near Harry Truman. They’ve done a bang-up job haven’t they? Mountains of debt, ignoring the Constitution at every turn – Dems and Repubs alike.

I don’t know if I would support Sarah Palin if she ran for higher office. I don’t think she wants it anyway. But, she has been butchered for largely petty reasons – she went to Hawaii and Idaho (oh the horrors!), she talks funny, she was in a beauty pagent, she is an evangelical Christian, she thought Katie Couric was a condescending beyotch, etc.

Ask yourself why Obama wasn’t eviscerated for his 57-state comment, or any of the multi-tude of other gaffes (see the Obamaturisms that Ed Morrissey compiles). Or how Joe Biden gets a pass on – well everything.

I also find it interesting that “Conservative” David Frum gets a lot of “Liberal” supporters.

    “txanne:

What are you going on about? I am afraid I do not understand. Yes, it is unfortunate that there is no spell check here at FF, but you seem to be calling Glenn Beck a deranged liberal.

Sarah Palin is a dimwitted theocrat who can’t answer basic questions about the history of this country. She is a quitter, no matter the excuses you try to make for her.
She can’t name supreme court decisions, nor the founding fathers.

She often refers to political office as “a title”.

    If the tiara fits…

  • communists-basher

The left-wing published Wikipedia says: “The separation of church and state is a legal and political principle DERIVED [my outline] from the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.”

‘Derived’ means that this concept is debatable(!) to me. The Liberal notion that ‘we must have separation of church and state’ is sourced and very much based on the works of Radical Progressive Liberal Socialist group ACLU. ACLU is winning for the moment but this is about to change.
As a Jewish-American, I sure understand that ACLU is mainly consists of Jewish Lawyers who are some of the most Liberal in this country, and act in their long term tradition to Support Socialism. This doesn’t really mean that all Jews are like them. Those of us who lived under the Soviet Regime, know otherwise: Socialism and Liberalism are two Evils that often hold hands. But tell this to American Liberals who live in a fairytale created for them by leftist Professors who indeed dominate in the US…
The ability to create and promote such fairytales is a right given by the democratic constitution … but this also means that this right can be debated and seized, by conservatives. As it was done by McCarthy before. So enjoy your momentum, Liberals, while you can.

    “Palin quit for two reasons:
-stop the abuse of Alaska by Radical Progressive Liberal Socialist Fascists.
-free herself for a greater future”

Palin quit because it was getting hard and she had shot to make gobs of money.

“One can only be proud of what an Intelligent Individual like Palin did.”

One can also think it was pathetic. Ever notice that crazies like to Capitalize Important Ideas when they can’t form an argument?

“The Fact that she is a threat to people like you is another matter.”

The fact that you’ve put this much faith in a shameful opportunist is another matter.

“Obama will not be able to rise from this point forward.”

Yeah, I know. Did you know health care reform died last summer when a bunch of hayseeds told the government to keep their hands out of their Medicare?

“His mistake (more precisely his Radical Advisers ) was: pushing too hard too openly(!) for Socialism.”

Again – Capitalizing Your Ideas So They Look Have More Impact. Obama isn’t a socialist – He’s A Socialist!

“American are not Europeans, they are more free, they were not ready. The window of opportunity for Radicals is closing.”

You forgot to capitalize Free. Nice job on Radicals. Question – who is more of a Communist – Larry Summers or Paul Volker?

“Let me tell you about another (secret) mistake Radicals made this time around: they over-estimated hate to Bush.”

Did someone let you into A Secret Meeting of the Communists? I have another Secret for you that you probably didn’t learn in your 8 years of formal education – 22% isn’t a very large percentage. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/01/16/opinion/polls/main4728399.shtml

“It just wasn’t enough for most people to fall for Socialist Healthcare. Of course, Palin introduced cliche like ‘death panels’ helped … but it wasn’t the only thing. But it was enough to stimulate hate.”

I know! I hate everything too!

“History always takes its turns – you’ll have another chance, guarantied … but not in your or mine life time.”

Well, thanks for letting us have a shot during your lifetime. It was a fun year. Sorry about stabilizing the economy. Sorry too for finally dealing with Afpak. We also apologize for not balancing the budget in 12 months – sorry we’re not all as bright as you.

Don’t forget though – when the Hayseeds are in Power, you will have to actually try to solve problems. Saying that you don’t like something (like illegal immigration) isn’t actually a policy [gasp] and doesn’t really do much to solve problems. It will rile up your base – Who Are Very Mad. It does feel good and if you’re Beck, it will make you money. Also – saying “Terror,” “Terrorism,” “Freedom,” and “Enhanced Interrogation” isn’t really a foreign policy, but it will certainly scare people (especially the undereducated – your base) and will allow you start wars. But – again another caveat (warning) – tax cuts don’t actually pay for wars. Crazy, I know.

    txanne:

Sarah Palin is real. She is a simple conservative person who has values, believes in God, and wishes the best for her country, she is well educated, well articulated, well mannered, and most important, she is very intelligent which means that she is not Liberal. She is the best thing that has happened to the US since Reagan. I came to the US in 1989, and ever since I’ve watched this great country being destroyed day by day by Radical Liberal Socialists like ACLU, environmentalists and other Marxists.
I hope Palin runs for office and help us to ‘restore’ this great country, as Beck likes to put it.

What we need is the return of the Conservative values which are not present in the current Republican party. We need someone who can say NO to gay propaganda, who can say NO sex education in schools, who can say NO to ‘green’ movement, who can say NO to Global Warming Radical agenda, who can Keep Us Safe, who can help to restore the US’ superpower status, who can help defeating European Socialism, who can help defeating ‘Radical Liberal Propaganda’ in the Media, who can help to return this country to its moral values and to its religious roots! Palin is a perfect candidate for that, not Gingrich.

  • txanne

    Dear communists-basher,

    You said,

I hope you get your wish.

    sparty:

    I totally understand your despair.
But let me explain a few errors in your logic – this should help you with your future debates.

    1. Being uneducated doesn’t mean to be stupid. This is a common misconception that Liberals fall into.
    2. Conservatives love to solve problems and take care of themselves and their loved ones. Its the Liberals that expect their government to do it for them. So this argument never works in favor of big government with Conservatives…. but it does makes Liberals more accepting of Socialism.

    3. Making money is a basic human desire, and this is why Capitalism fits humans the best, even Liberal Humans. ‘Being Greedy is Bad’ argument doesn’t work with Conservatives. But it does help to energize Liberal Socialists biggest supporters , the Big Labor. Big Labor IS the most uneducated, lazy, useless, non-productive, truly lowest human race. But not the rural rednecks and not the Blacks on welfare. Blacks on welfare are being kept as slaves by Radical Fascist Democratic Liberal Politicians. When Blacks are being free they can achieve just like the rest of us. Just look how many Blacks are on Fox, and how much they have achieved. In contrast, the Big Labor is like a permanent welfare, a giant parasite on our necks, a TRUE sheeple of incapable humans. The Big Labor bosses know that and use them to gain power. All humans born different … but using the stupid ones as a tool is Inhuman, Fascist, and that what Big Labor’ Socialism is – another form of Fascism! And this makes Obama a Socialist Fascist, as he is in bed with Big Labor.

  • communists-basher

    txanne:

Ah, another mistake of the Left – they believe that this country has ’shifted’ left substantially and that selecting Palin for President will turn away the majority of Americans, and will assure Obama’s win.

This is a common misconception on the part of unintelligent intellectual left. What they really see is that the Media has shifted substantially to the Left, not the people. After all, we only have one conservative TV Station, Fox, and only one mainstream conservative newspaper, Washington Times.

In America, people didn’t change, their views didn’t change. There is no more of acceptance of homosexuality or socialism than it was two or ten years ago. Instead there are political powers that were seized by the Left … because there was the right momentum for that.
America has always been a two main party country. But as political domination changes, the propaganda changes with it. So today you hear that gay marriage is good, tomorrow you’ll hear an opposite. The same goes for all other issues.

BTW, your relaxed, Liberal, uncontrolled immigration policies (Clinton) caused a huge input of highly conservative immigrants from India, China and Arab countries. Like my friend likes to say: “Don’t worry, if not Republicans than Global Cooling and Islam will save us.” HAHAHA

  • communists-basher

“Well, thanks for letting us have a shot during your lifetime. It was a fun year. Sorry about stabilizing the economy. Sorry too for finally dealing with Afpak. We also apologize for not balancing the budget in 12 months – sorry we’re not all as bright as you.”

The biggest lie of the Year 2010: Obama’s economic policies have stabilized the economy.
Nothing can be father from the Truth. Obama’s true policies is to keep economy suppressed. Why? To enable transformation to Socialism.
Why do you think Gold has moved up so much? Because Obama is in the office and is driving the economy DOWN. Never in my life, as a small business owner, I’ve been so uncertain about my future …

Obama years is a lost time of my life.

  • Michael Balay

Hard question: who was the greatest Founder? I’m with Talleyrand in saying that Hamilton was the greatest statesman of the generation.

Beck and Palin thrash around in a somewhat inarticulate way about the elephant in the room, that the Crisis exposed complete failure in the leadership class, not just in politics, but also in banks, in media, in education, in religious institutions, in corporations. So “Who can you trust?” is not an idle or silly question.

  • Michael Balay

We don’t have to agonize about whether you can trust Ed Schultz. You can’t.

Or rather, you CAN trust that he has no principles that trump his partisan and ideological interests. This embodies the definition of “unprincipled.” But you certainly can’t take anything he says at face value.
