Senator John McCain has indicated that he may make one last stand to prevent the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”:
Armed Services Republicans threatened Wednesday to filibuster the defense authorization bill if it comes to the floor with Democrat-backed language repealing the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.
Armed Services ranking member John McCain said Thursday that he would “without a doubt” support a filibuster if the bill goes to the floor with repeal language.
“I’ll do everything in my power,” the Arizona Republican said, citing letters from the four service chiefs urging Congress not to act before a Pentagon review of the policy is complete. “I’m going to do everything I can to support the men and women of the military and to fight what is clearly a political agenda.”

As usual, the dems want to pass a bill and then figure out it’s consequences later. We tell our kids to plan more intelligently than that but apparently our representatives get a pass on that. So how much will it cost to retrofit all the showers and bunkhouses to offer absolute privacy because no one in their right mind is going to want to shower and/or bunk with someone who may be attracted to you sexually in a military setting. This will create a mass exit from military service and our military readiness will go down the tubes. There is already precious little privacy in the military but to ask our soldiers to bunk with others who are attracted to you will promote fraternization and promiscuity thereby destroying order and discipline in the ranks. This is just Obama filling a campaign promise – pandering to the gay community – he doesn’t give a rip about military morale or readiness.

This issue can quickly reduce itself to pure conjecture and unfounded statements by non military types. Before we get statements like: the Military is against it because they’re “too socially conservative”. Please look over this article in the Marine Corps Times of February 2010:

Actually, we already know the consequences and there are not any. Israel, Canada, Britain, etc. all allow gays to serve openly, and the US allows gays to serve provided they stay in the closet. You do understand what “Don’t ask, don’t tell” means don’t you? Gays are already there gaping at all the naked young men in showers already. Has our military readiness fallen apart since 93? Or does your being ignorant of someones sexuality somehow inoculate you?
(by the way, your posting is hilarious in its ignorance and bigotry, I guarantee you that you have some very deep qualms about your own sexuality, a real straight man is secure in his sexuality)
As to McCain, years ago he used the excuse that the military (Colin Powell gave him cover) was against it and he would never go against the top brass, now the top brass has come around and McCain has suddenly forgotten his previous rationales.
By the way, no way in hell McCain believes any of this, he is simply pandering to the typical in-bred Arizona white trash.

I have long thought that the Taliban men and others who demand that women in their society conceal their bodies reveal a fundamental weakness in the development of their self or being. They have to imprison the women to protect themselves from sexual temptation or “impure thoughts.” They lack the fundamental strength to manage their own emotions.
Does McCain also believe that our male military warriors can bravely confront the horrors of war but lack the strength of self to be threatened by the presence of another male who may be emotionally and sexually attracted to men?
Can’t we have more confidence in our military men to live appropriately in our 21st century world? Certainly the evidence is that repeal of DADT is less of a threat to the younger troops than to the previous generations.
I agree with Admiral McMullen, General Petraeus, and other military leaders that it is time to repeal this policy and allow our gay and lesbian warriors serve with the honor they earn and deserve.

I dunno, people like American above are having a very difficult time not groping the mailman. How can you expect him not to be all over the soldiers (provided, you know, he were to actually enlist)
