At the Tea Party National Convention: They just gave an ovation to a shout-out to James O’Keefe…

Last seen getting arrested in a Senator’s office.

Great. The Boratz of the political world.

It really is more about enemies than about substance, isn’t it?

  • cporet

Par for the course. G. Gordon is a hero to the right: breaking and entering, conspiracy. And, of course, Ollie North sold anti-tank misslies to the Iranians. Aid and comfort to the enemy? No, it was a path to running as a Republican for one of Virginia’s
Senate seats. Republicans love their convicted criminals as well as their yet to be convicted.

The tea party attendees and speakers are a good example of where the Republican party is now heading. Into the abyss.

They have a lot of gripes. They have no solutions. They despise Obama because he is Obama – a black man who has progressive ideas for solving America’s problems, and they hate him for both those things. How dare the liberals win and put a black man in the WH! Their racism is not even thinly disguised – they run around with signs and slogans that should put these ‘christians’ to shame, but it’s exactly who they are. They not only tolerate racism and bigotry, they overtly embrace it.

The ‘want their country back’! What exactly does that mean? Throwback to 50s America where minorities where seen and not heard? They’re threatened by any advancement or change. They embrace the status quo even if it hurts them. One doesn’t know if you have to feel sorry for these whiners and complainers, or laugh. I haven’t heard one single person in this tea party offer any constructive ideas of reform, except a lot of Obama-bashing and whining about the government and taxes . How would they reduce the deficit? What do they want to cut? Oh right….anything to help the poor and the struggling middle class. Amazing idiocy.

Hypocritical too because most if not all of them couldn’t really express adequately what they mean by ’small government’ or ’socialism’ since they all have their Medicare and SS cards firmly locked inside their wallets . They don’t care about healthcare reform until each of them loses their jobs and their benefits, and/or their premiums or healthcare costs rise to such a zenith they will go nearly bankrupt. Then they’ll scream. They lack foresight.

The vast majority of Americans watching this theater of the absurd dismiss this easily. They have speakers like Palin or Farah to throw out the slogans that mean nothing in the end. They like to agitate and dress up in costumes . They are not productive, but destructive.

Republicans risk being marginalized if they embrace this nonsense. All that religious pomposity, their holier-than-thou posturing is offensive to most Americans. You cannot pretend to be ‘moral’ if you are opting for hate and fear. It is the antithesis of Christian thought.

They need really prefer to pit Americans against each other, and tolerate racism and homophobia, petty criminals like O’Keefe and rabid right wingers like Farah. Nothing moral or Christian here….let’s move on.

The more I hear and listen to these people, the less I respect them.

    anniemargaret:

The vast majority of Americans watching this theater of the absurd dismiss this easily.

    Not quite true:

One-third of Americans have a favorable view of the Tea Party movement, but a plurality has no opinion at all, according to a new national poll.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey indicates that 26 percent of the public has an unfavorable view of the Tea Party movement and that 4 in 10 have not heard of the movement or don’t know enough to form an opinion. The poll’s Friday-morning release comes as what’s billed as the first national Tea Party convention begins its first full day of meetings in Nashville.

“The Tea Party movement is a blank slate to many Americans, which is not surprising for a political movement that is only about a year old,” said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “Not surprisingly, opinion breaks along partisan and ideological lines.”

According to the survey, Democrats by a 2-to-1 margin have an unfavorable view of the Tea Party movement; Republicans like it by a 3-to-1 margin. Among independents, 35 percent of independents holding a positive view and 24 percent a negative view.

It’s interesting how liberals, who are so proud of their own past antiwar movements that also began from humble beginnings, are now contemptuous of other Americans who dissent from the liberals’ policies.

Obama is smart enough not to dismiss it so easily. On every front, from health care to the War on Terror, he’s backpedaling as fast as he can without his own left-wing base walking out.

    Protest movements never need answers.

Your own left-wing antiwar movements never had constructive ideas as to how to negotiate arms control with the Russians or how to stop al-Qaeda terrorism. All they ever did was march around chanting “Stop the war! Stop the war!” or “All we are saying, is give peace a chance.”

That was enough. It got Americans to think about the problem. Your left-wing ancestors called that “consciousness raising.”

That’s all the Tea Party protesters are trying to do–consciousness raising. They don’t have to provide answers, just force Americans to look at the problem.

That was good enough for YOU leftists. Remember?

Problem is they are 8 years and 6 Trillion dollars late. Only driving force for the tea party is race, they are racists.

Ignorance deserves contempt. Hell – college kids who ran around in the 60’s brandishing Maos Red Book deserved contempt.

How’s that Iraq War thing working out for you Sinz? Become a big defender of it yet?

This is ridiculous. There always was a solution to stopping al-Qaida—remove its raisons d’être. In the late 70s, there was an opportunity to retrofit American infrastructure to use less oil, and therefore require less involvement in the Mideast.

That opportunity may still exist. In fact, it will be required in the medium term…

sinz: Yes, hippies from the 60s protested the Vietnam War . Particularly when the draft was initiated. By that time, ordinary everyday folks who suddenly had their sons being drafted into that war, became protesters themselves. Suddenly rich folks found politicians to find a way to keep their kids out, right? You bet.

In a way, the protests and the draft had their impact. The war had become unmanageable and deeply hated across America by the end of the 60s. The protests helped to end that war from becoming even more of the quagmire it had become. Good. 58,000 soldiers is enough to sacrifice. My boyfriend was one of them.

Btw….there is nothing whatever wrong with the word, ‘peace.’ It is not much used in our times, is it? A sad commentary on the world we live in. And please don’t smear all liberals as anti-military (another thread). My husband is a retired officer, Vietnam, my cousin is a retired Navy helicopter pilot, and all my uncles were retired military, both sides, all Democrats. My Dad, retired staff sargeant, would be a RINO these days; fiscally conservative, but very much liking all those ’socialist’ programs Obama is trying to implement. My family is pro-military, but also proudly Democrat.

But these teabaggers are not just running from ‘liberal’ ideas and policies, they appear to be deep-seated racists at heart . They hate Obama not just because of the deficits, because if they were truly upset about the deficits (as we all are) we would have heard from them years earlier during the Bush years when the deficits started skyrocketing. They don’t like their taxes raised, but tagged along with Bush’s two wars which were never paid for…….a sign that’s it’s quite OK with these people when it fits their partisan interests. So is it really principle that is driving them, or hatred of a half black liberal man in office and a Democratic win in ‘08? I say the latter.

It’s about the face of America. Who we are as a nation. Are we progressing, becoming more inclusive or do we let the teabaggers define who America is or ought to be? Many harbor racist and ethnic-hate. They feel threatened by minorities in power, or that our nation honors and tolerates those of different faiths or no faith. By far, they are ‘christian’ – a very in-your-face Christian, meant to convey anyone not joing their club is not as ‘American’ as they are. I’ve had some former evangelical friends assert they would not rest until they are able to ‘christianize’ the government. In any other context, this would be considered fascism. They are no longer my friends.

Look at the photos of these people and tell me that is not what they want and what they are trying to do. From the screaming teabagger woman on TV last night saying Obama is ‘from Satan’ to many using despicable signs impugning Obama’s race, to religious pomposity, these are things that America is seeing. Who needs all that hate and fear?

Oh sure, on the surface it’s about taxes and ‘big government’ but they’ve been frightened by their own political leaders by hyperbole and deliberate mis-characterization. The rest of it is just a feeling that they got had….by the Democrats and they can’t stand it. So much for their love of democracy.

They also now want Obama ‘impeached.’ For what? For trying to put in place some progressive ideas that the majority of Americans desired and voted for?

This is not patriotism. This is not a love for country. I would ask them…why do they hate America in the year 2010? Yes, they have all the right in this world to protest whatever they want. But they don’t command respect because they themselves are not respectful.

And sorry….they DO need to offer solutions instead of this constant whining.

PS: I personally thought the Iraq war was immoral, as did millions of others. The only way to stop the advancement of global terrorism is a pristine and sophisticated network of intelligence and working closely with allies – the military ‘war’ against terrorism is limited and constrained due to terrorists constant re-locating and re-grouping. And if we didn’t see so much anti-gay bigotry we might be able to re-hire those Arab linguists that were fired because they were…gasp…. gay!

    Talk about idiocy!
