[...] Follow the link for Freddoso’s parade of horribles and see for yourself if he’s exaggerating. I’m on Hannity’s side insofar as I think that even semi-competently administered imaging is better than no imaging at all, but MM’s point about the big-picture failures here — starting with the State Department’s insane recklessness in handing out visas to people from “problem countries” — is the takeaway. Exit question: What’s the bigger surprise today, Michelle opposing extra screening or centrist David Frum pounding the table about profiling? [...]

David Frum writes: "It would be impossibly time-consuming to subject every passenger to the degree of individuated scrutiny Ms Murphy encountered. "

Nonsense. El Al screeners interview all passengers at non-Israeli airports while the passengers are already waiting in line to check in. That's how it was last time I flew El Al, anyway, from LAX. The screening adds *no* time to the passenger's wait. Similarly with the pre-flight questioning of departing passengers at Ben Gurion airport.

That's for the regular screening, of course. Follow-up screening as in Ms. Murphy's case is another story, but that's already an extra wait today.
