Bye bye, Charlie Crist.
Public Policy Polling’s website reports that later today, they are going to release “absolutely brutal numbers” on Charlie Crist. Apparently, the poll finds that amongst polled Florida Republican primary voters, 19% would like him to still be Governor a year from now, 14% hope he will be their senator, and, get this, 56% wanted him out of elected office entirely.
As a Crist fan, I’m sorry to see that he has fallen so far in the graces of Florida Republicans….but deserved or not, there ain’t a hell of a lot of ambiguity in these numbers. Charlie Crist’s career as a Florida Republican, maybe as a Republican period, is over. End of story. Crist simply cannot win as a Republican. If Crist ever serves Florida again, it will be as an independent or as a Democrat. More likely though, Charlie Crist’s political career is over.
Sorry, Charlie. You served Florida voters well, but the speaking circuit beckons…

Perhaps Crist will replace Eric Holder as Attorney-General at the outset of Obama’s second term.

Or perhaps Crist will pull a quasi-Specter and become the next junior senator from the state of Florida.

Do you really want an AG that failed the bar exam twice?

You liked Charlie? Are you from Florida? I vote Republican about 85% of the time and that 15% is usually cast for protest votes (lived in three districts and all three congress(wo)men are embarassing). When given the chance in the last race for governor I actually left the slate blank. I couldn’t vote for Davis but I certainly couldn’t vote for Charlie. He is not a conservative…nor quite frankly is he a moderate. Charlie is a weather vane, a political groper who snags the popular feeling for the moment and rides with it. He had no direction or beliefs other than that he should be elected. I signed for Rubio early even if his rightward tilt has been somewhat off-putting. Charlie is done in Florida because as I have said before, he does not have a base. No one believes in Charlie because at the end of the day, Charlie does not believe in anything. Good riddance.

Yeah Cardinal, I get the feeling they really don’t understand the Florida Senate race. I would also say you’re completely correct on Crist. I’ll admit to voting for him for Gov. and AG, but only after holding my nose.

I also cop to voting for him for AG. In the beginning I thought of going with him in the primary but liked him less and less as I heard more from him.
