Diana West notes the continuing silence of Harvard’s legendarily liberal faculty – and the nation’s media – about the Harvard university chaplain who endorsed the death penalty for Muslim apostates. This at the school that fired Larry Summers for so much as asking a question about women in the sciences!

Perhaps they didn’t think it was of mega importance. People are saying dumb things every day.

Did the methods work? Not a legal issue. “It worked” is not a legally recognized defese to a criminal charge. Was it justified to use them in the circumstances of 2002?There are certain recognized defenses to crime. I don’t know which one is raised here.Would it be justified under the different circumstances of 2009?Again, what is the legal excuse. Were they illegal? That’s what trials determine. If illegal, should they be prosecuted?A prosecutorial policy question decided on a case to case basis. Torture is a serious crime which should ordinarily be prosecuted.

ottovbvs: Diana West said that when she tried to contact Harvard, their Public Affairs Office wouldn’t even return her calls, and no one else there would say anything on the record. It’s one thing not to make a big deal out of it.It’s quite another to have no opinion on it. Especially when it’s stunning that a Muslim chaplain at Harvard University would have any sympathy whatsoever for executing Muslim apostates.I certainly have an opinion on it, even though I’m not standing on a soapbox in a public street ranting about it.
