The Prime Minister may be losing some points in the short run, however he has been able to impress the Canadian public by using a few cards he has up his sleeves. His intent on proroguing Parliament was to allow his government to function smoothly without having the opposite parties pounce at any chance they had to criticize them, which made them get distracted. But, his ultimate reason for proroguing Parliament was to allow him to push through his final numbers of Conservative Senators, so that he could finally have his crime bill passed and also allow him one step closer to having the Senate elected by the people of Canada. This, I believe, is what he had promised during the election campaigns and within the Throne Speech.

As a resident of Canada my political views favour conservatism. However I do not support conservatives. Somewhere along the way in they parted company.

A significant subset of Canadians who are willing to support Tories but aren't supporting them right now are probably 1) tired of Afghanistan and 2) weary of a jobless economic recovery. Perhaps Harper is out of gas.
