I agree with willems. Limbaugh and Beck are political commentors. Beck has distanced himself from both parties so I don't know why he still gets tagged as "Republican". By harping on them, Frum & Company are falling for the very trap they are telling the GOP to avoid. Treat them for what they are: entertainers.

It's time to leave Beck and Limbaugh alone. They are not the problem of the conservative movement. These guys are just one or two branches of the tree. The problem is he trunk. Powerful intellectual ideas, compelling, and articulated. Once the trunk and roots are healthy, then identify the audience. Then communicate to that audience on terms they understand.

A bit better research and you might have had a better article.

Many US radio stations carry their programming on the internet. You should be able to catch Limbaugh and Beck anywhere in the 1st world if you have a decent internet connection. There seems to be little excuse not to listen and form your own opinion instead of having it filtered by someone else.

There are major differences between the US today and France in 1981. The US left has been libelling the center right as fascists and racists for decades. The charges are losing their sting and are more and more being viewed as what they usually are, cynical political manipulation.

President Mitterand was a great deal more honest about his program during his campaign than President Obama was during his own run. This puts Obama in a weaker position as significant chunks of his majority believe his positions to be something that turns out to simply not be so.

The US is also not a republic in the sense that France is. It is a federal republic under a dual sovereignty system. Absent martial law, Obama can't change the US electoral system in the way you describe Mitterand doing because elections are run by the states, not at the federal level.
