Fox News to Beck: We Made You

The Huffington Post reports:

Glenn Beck appears on the cover of this weekend’s New York Times Magazine in a lengthy profile written by Mark Leibovich.

In the profile, Leibovich touches on tensions between Beck and Fox News, the network that catapulted him to stardom.

News of tension between Beck and his network colleagues (and bosses) is nothing new — in March, the Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz described Fox News as “a network divided” over Beck, which prompted network boss Roger Ailes to issue a stern “no trash-talking” message to his DC bureau — but Leibovich’s article sheds new light on the extent to which Beck and Fox News have clashed.

I’ve been watching Beck since he was collecting pitchforks over on CNN.

If Fox kicks him to the curb, will he take his chalkboard with him?

Roger Ailes helped create a monster, and now he wants the monster’s victims to pity him. Dr. Frankenstein, call your office!

    Jen:

Collecting pitchforks? Gee, you wouldn’t be confusing conservatism with, say, POPULISM, would you? Russell Kirk reminds us that the essense of populism is its demand that the problems of democracy be solved by…more and more democracy. The more and more democracy you have, the more opportunities citizens have for actualizing their worst fears, hatreds, resentments, envies, etc. All of which, of course, is demonstrably NOT a very effective way to limit the size and scope of government. In fact, populism, if given the reigns, is a pretty surefire way to get big government AT ITS WORST.

Remember the collectivist whackjob Pat Buchanan picked as his running mate in 2000? (Not a rhetorical question, I seriously can’t remember her name.) His decision to put a militant leftist on his ticket put paid to any notion of rightwing populists being, after all , genuinely conservative. The far left and the far right in America have a demogogic relationship bound in inflammatory, mob-baiting rhetoric; both desire control of government so they can settle scores against those who dissent from their moral certainties.

Well, when your most popular show is hosted by what Peggy Noonan (WSJ Columnist) calls a “nut” you risk being labeled as a nut network.

Fox made their own bed so they have to sleep in it.

PS: Anyone notice Mr Beck has stopped calling churches progressive, Nazi, Commies, liberal whatevers ? Wonder what happened there ?

The bottom line is…. the bottom line.

If Becks popularity cannot be translated into dollars and cents for the network then it’s not a good relationship for the network. Ultimately they are in the business to satisfy their shareholders and a programme that appears to have become toxic to advertisers is a programme that should be replaced.

Beck claims to be libertarian. My point was that I followed him to Fox, not the other way around.

” The far left and the far right in America have a demogogic relationship bound in inflammatory, mob-baiting rhetoric; both desire control of government so they can settle scores against those who dissent from their moral certainties.”

I disagree about settling scores. I think they have the most passion about their views, either way. They really believe in their cause.

Um, he never did. He did say that if anyone’s church was preaching ‘social justice” they should be aware that it’s code for redistribution of wealth and not necessarily about personal salvation.
