carly fiorina Fiorina and Boxer Hold Tense DebateThe New York Times reports:

SAN FRANCISCO – Senator Barbara Boxer of California and her Republican opponent, the businesswoman Carly Fiorina, sparred in their first – and perhaps only – debate on Wednesday night, with jobs taking a front seat in a state rife with economic problems.

The debate, held at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif., east of San Francisco, is the only one scheduled thus far in the Senate race, and both candidates seemed to be holding little back in the early going. In her opening statement, Ms. Fiorina, the former chief executive of Hewlett-Packard, cast Ms. Boxer as an inside-the-Beltway veteran out of touch with the needs of common Californians.

“The truth is she’s fighting hardest for another six years in Washington, D.C.,” Ms. Fiorina said.

Ms. Boxer struck back, citing thousands of jobs that she said Ms. Fiorina eliminated or allowed to be outsourced during her time at HP.

“Jobs are my focus,” Ms. Boxer said, before adding: “And when I talk about shipping jobs overseas, I’m reminded of my opponent.”

That back-and-forth underscored the emphasis that both candidates are placing on the economy this fall. The state’s legislature is late – again – on a state budget and facing a $19 billion deficit. And the state continues to suffer from high unemployment — more than 12 percent.

I think Boxer won this one.

Yeah, Fiorina is really in touch with the common man. She says hello to her gardeners, her chauffer, her chef, her maids everyday. I really hate these super rich politicians from either party when they try to act populist. It is painful to watch.

I agree. But it’s not just Fiorina – everything about Boxer’s persona screams mega-wealthy and out of touch.

abj. Sure, I only point it Fiorina because she accused Boxer of being out of touch. Kettle meet pot.
Boxer is a terrible person “Call me Senator…” yeesh. Stuck up a-hole. The general called her “Ma’am”
Hard not to hate her after that. Is there anyway they can both lose?

    Ha. If only…

I want Campbell back, can the Republicans do a ‘do over’ from the primary?

Little love fest going on here. You lefties seem to have a knack for reading people’s hearts and minds. As if someone who actually became successful can’t relate to those who are trying to become successful.

Fairy, her outfits cost more than most Californians earn in a month. You can be super rich and still relate to average people (and of course she can relate to young executives, but newsflash, most people are not young executives). Warren Buffett has kept his head screwed on tight. But great wealth does change everything for people. This is no great mystery. There are countless books devoted to the topic. Great money and great power are corrupting. Very few rich and powerful people simply chuck it all, give away most of their money and become sheep farmers or auto mechanics, even if it would make them much happier.

Fiorina, almost rode Hewlett Packard off the road and totally into the ditch, as CEO… before the HP, board gave her a ridiculously large “golden parachute” and called, good riddance, to bad rubbish.

It’s hard for me to believe the young, California; voters would give another loser, Republican an opportunity to represent the state in the Senate…

I, like the way Boxer, dishes…gave her “what fore” with respect to “right to choose”…
    Way to go Barb…!
