Dick Morris Calls on GOP To Shutdown Government

At the Americans for Prosperity (AFP) summit in Washington, D.C. this afternoon, Gov. Bob McDonnell, Fox News Commentator Dick Morris, and AFP President Tim Phillips blasted Democrats in highly charged political speeches.

Conservatives in attendance were particularly enthusiastic about a comment made by Dick Morris, a former aide to President Bill Clinton, who said that he expected the next session of Congress would feature a government shutdown.

“There’s going to be a government shutdown, just like in ’95 and ’96. And we’re going to win it this time, and I’m going to be fighting on your side!” said Morris, to thunderous applause. Formerly a Democrat, Morris had a falling-out with the Clintons after resigning because of a prostitution scandal.

Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips’ comments were reflective of what is common sentiment among conservatives today — don’t trust Democrats: “President Reagan used to say, ‘trust, but verify’. I say forget trust, let’s just verify every cotton-picking thing… I’m not in a very trusting mood these days,” said Phillips.

Glenn Beck’s ‘Restoring Honor’ rally tomorrow at the Lincoln Memorial is being advertised as a non-political gathering. But none of that sentiment was present here at the Americans for Prosperity Summit, which is at least tangentially connected to Beck’s rally.

Phillips reserved special scorn for Vice President Joe Biden, labeling him as out of touch:

This vice-President actually said to Time Magazine this week… with 2.7 million job losses during their failed stimulus bill… he actually said, ‘now this is where the fun starts.’ That’s how out of touch he is… Mr. Vice President, with all due respect, I think the fun is going to start this November.

“I believe the forces that oppose big spending are going to win majorities in both houses of Congress in November,” said Dick Morris. “To the big spenders from Oregon, and New York and Connecticut who think they’re safe– I’ve got a message for you: November is coming!”

Phillips, however, stressed that his message was political, but not partisan.”This is not a partisan statement because it applies to politicians in both parties who have voted for big government, big spending, and more of the same,” he said.

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell made a speech at the opening session as well, touting his state’s decision to be the first in the nation to litigate against Obamacare:

In Richmond, [Virginia] we still believe the constitution means something… if the federal government can tell you that you must buy a product or service, and if you don’t, you will be fined or otherwise punished, then there is no limit to constitutional power. This is an amazingly important constitutional question that our founders would believe is worthy of litigating.

As of today, there are at least 70 Socialists (dems) in Congress and half of the Senate are Socialists as well, plus over 30 Socialist czars, plus several Socialist consultants. Since when … it has become NORMAL for Republicans to govern together with Socialists. The Socialism is a crime, and this government is a bunch of criminals that need to be persecuted. At least Republicans are sticking with Capitalism, no matter how corrupt or liberal they are. That’s what matters. The today’s Democrats are the enemies of the US as they pursue one goal only – to destroy this great county. No matter how much bigotry the Socialists (officially still called Dems) spit out, the regular folks understand that it’s only a game – these are not governing party but true enemies elected by mistake. The greatest American mistake indeed.
Now that’s more like it. As long as you bring the crazy, I’ll bring the popcorn.

  • communists-basher

Even worth, this government is Totalitarian. How come, for example, access to any Obama’s documents is prohibited??? What is this, Putin’s Russia? The fact that a President cannot be checked /investigated/ removed for not being a legit president means that democracy is non-existent. We’re living under the Socialist Dictatorship. Talking about November elections and discussing parties makes me laugh. Obama can do whatever he wants, it’s that obvious. He is just being patient, he needs to sign an international treaty to confiscate personal arms first, and he needs to do it quietly. America can only be saved by regular folks. Politicians no matter any longer.

  • Oldskool

Talking about November elections and discussing parties makes me laugh. All of a sudden I’m with you on that.

Oldskool, I tell you what’s crazy. It’s when judges are told they shouldn’t touch eligibility disputes and when all documents are sealed. Feds are suing the states, bills are passed by the means of bribes, the judges make verdicts ignoring the will of the majority, sex education is forced on children, homosexuality is in favor, terrorists are are being apologized to, people forced to buy products they don’t need … that is what crazy.

Nah. What’s crazy is when people who only watch Fox and listen to AM radio try to school people who know better.

Just to prove my point … the Dictatorship is well and alife in Chicago, the town of Barack Hussein Obama, a muslim socialist president:

    http://www.suntimes.com/news/cityhall/2641418,daley-homeland-security-cameras-082619.article

Homeland Security head praises city’s security cameras:
“In a world where we cannot eliminate all risks, Chicagoans can be confident that every effort that I know of that can be made is being made to minimize the risk. And if something were to happen, their first-responders are prepared,” Napolitano said.

IL is now officially a Police state. Hahahahahha.

  • Oldskool

IL is now officially a Police state. HahahahahhaBush began HS , wiretapped millions of people, tossed people into prison and tortured them in the exact same way that we prosecuted our enemies for doing during WWII. So in that sense he was a socialist/communist/warmongering/pigged-headed child-president. And for all his crimes he retired in luxury.

  • communists-basher

Oldskool, if you’re an old Socialist then, of course, you know better. But I doubt it. I’m the old, real life former member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. I recall that when Lenin had to stop his Socialism for a few years, in the early 1920’s – it was called ‘the period of NEP’ – and allow for private entrepreneurship … Russia flourished, everything was in abundance, people were happy, it was a quick glimpse of Capitalism … Lenin did it to single out people with the entrepreneurship abilities who are dangerous for Socialism. He then rounded them all up, killed them in concentration camps and outlawed the NEP.

This reason for this story is to show that … removing Obama and his Bolsheviks from the office will restore economy in a matter of a couple of months.

  • communists-basher

Now you’re not telling the truth. Bush only wiretapped calls that came from certain parts of the Muslim world, he only tossed and tortured terrorists in prison. And you’re right – he prosecuted our enemies. Every democracy has a right to defend itself.

What are you listening, Oldskool? Tom Hartman show on Progressive network, MSNBC? Hahahaha, when I listen to these people I immediately feel like I’m back in the USSR, I have to pinch myself and look around to make sure that I’m not under KGB cameras surveillance, kind of like in Chicago.

Get back to us when you get access to Bush’s military records.

BTW, have you ever read the Constituion? Do you understand it? To abolish the 2nd ammendment would require a constituional amendmment. Even if Obama serves two terms and put all his effort in to it – that type of legislation would never happen in time.

Obviously you stumbled upon the wrong site. This forum is for adult/intellectual discussion.

“This reason for this story is to show that … removing Obama and his Bolsheviks from the office will restore economy in a matter of a couple of months.”

Yes, we’re sure those methods would work in Mother Russia, but unfortunately, this is America. We have a Constitution to protect us from the type of unstable governments that you have grown accustomed to. Who are you- Bizarro Lenin?

  • communists-basher

    llbroo49,
Of course, you’re not aware that any International law, if accepted by the means of signing a treaty, can be enforced. And its acceptance does not require debate or voting in Congress. This is a loophole, a way around the Constitution, that Obama’s Socialists have figured out. This can happen as soon as tomorrow and you won’t even know. For example, are you aware that as we speak, Obama is trying to push for acceptance of International, UN sponsored, law of Children Human Rights that will effectively give government the right to take away your children if it suspects that you’re not good parent and also gives a child the right to dispute any decision made by parents with the government …???!!! This time Obama decided to put it on the vote, and from what I’ve learned already 30 republicans are against it … so this may not play out well for Obama.

But he has no legal obligation to put it on a vote. You can find all about it on the NRC websites.

How do you think Obama had the ability to give Interpol unlimited rights in the US? Using a similar loophole.

Your thoughts represent typical naive American thinking that America is a Democracy, under this Socialist president. Or may be you just a Socialist yourself.

Bush’s military payroll records were inadvertently destroyed, according to the Pentagon. In any case, there is no comparison here to Obama’s records. Bush’s records could not affect his eligibility.

Did your constitution protect you from the Socialist takeover and a complete transformation to a practically totalitarian Socialism, China style with some European elements? Did it protect you from the orchestrated by the Socialists crisis and subsequent destruction of the US economy? Or do you think that 2 years of this depression is constitutionally warranted? Then how many years of depression is too much?

I know just the type of intellectual Socialists that hate to see any former Soviet Union citizens voice their opinion … because their experiences just don’t bode well with the Socialist agenda of the current government. They call it a ‘wrong kind of Socialism’. Hahahaha, there is no wrong or right kind of Socialism – Evil is evil in any form.

I’m not Lenin. I’m your worst nightmare – a conservative libertarian with previous Failed Socialism’s experience.

    communists-basher // Aug 28, 2010 at 3:29 am

A lot of your fears would be alleviated if you actually read the US Constitution and had an understanding of our separation of powers. Obama signed a START treaty with Russia that has still not been approved by Congress. Obama is a president, not a tsar, he has only so much power. In America its not the man that is important -its the system. Thats why some members of congress can argue about repealing Obama’s healthcare plan. If enough Americans disagree with the direction that the president is taking, he will not be re-elected.

Are you a citizen? Didn’t they make you take some civics classes? But don’t worry, you are not alone, even some natural born Americans have little understanding of how our form of govenment works.

In school I was taught of the horrors of the former USSR ( gulags, mass deportations, starvation, colllective farms, loss of individual property, and Checkist) . But if you think our current form of government is the same as experienced in Russia, perhaps we wasted untold trillions fighting the cold war.

  • Xclamation

I know it’s rude to talk about someone while they’re still in the room, but come on. Can we please all agree that we shouldn’t be engaging the guy who’s clearly ill? At best we’re all debating a paranoid aged Russian. At worst we’re going round-for-round with someone suffering from mild schizophrenia. Either way, we’ve allowed Communists-basher to completely derail any actual debate.

  • balconesfault

I recall that when Lenin had to stop his Socialism for a few years, in the early 1920’s

Well – perhaps not ill. Maybe just senile, at his age.

But while communist-basher might be over the top … you don’t have to do much slumming in the harder core right wing blogs to find his opinion pretty much predominating (unlike Frum forum those pages tend to boot any poster who disputes such paranoid rantings pretty much instantly, making sure that the crazy meter keeps moving ever rightward).

I mean, you can go to Kos and find any number of lefties who are as extreme as communist-basher … but you’ll almost always find pushback of one sort or another in the comments. But outside of Frum Forum you find almost noplace on the right where there is pushback against the crazies from conservatives.

Well, and Little Green Footballs. But has he crossed the Balloon-Juice line where he’s no longer allowed to be considered a conservative blog?

  • sinz54

easton: And Sinz, don’t you think it best to wait if and until Republicans win. Your head might explode if they only win like 30 seats in the House and 5 in the Senate.
Oh, no, that wouldn’t be so terrible.

Remember that ObamaCare passed by only 15 votes in the House. And Reid had to go scrounging for a couple of moderate GOP votes in the Senate, after Scott Brown’s win.

Even a 30 seat win by the GOP in the House (and 4 seats in the Senate) would put an end to Obama’s agenda–and to that touted “liberal realignment.”

So one way or the other, Obama’s dream of being a second LBJ or second FDR is dead.

I was just speculating on what should happen if the GOP wins the House. That would be the best scenario for the entire country. Now the GOP would have to govern. And Boehner is not Gingrich–he doesn’t have Gingrich’s egomania. For Boehner to cut a deal with Obama which both the hard-core right and the hard-core left will be marginalized, is not out of the question.

For example, the energy issue. A bipartisan energy bill is possible–but it won’t be a bill that Greenpeace or the other professional enviros are going to like. Nor will the automobile industry.

  • DeepSouthPopulist

LauraNo: “DeepSouth, believe it or not this really is not a game to see who can score the most points. This country is in terrible trouble and gimmickry like filibusters and shutting down of government and insisting that up is down is not going to solve a thing. The democrats can’t get eviscerated, anyway.”

The Democrats are most definitely going to get eviscerated in 60 days; thanks to Barack Obama and solely to Barack Obama, the Democrats and their so-called “moderate” sympathizers, are looking at a coast-to-coast blowout.

Also, passing good legislation is only one half of the legislative process.

Stopping bad legislation is just as important. That’s one reason there are so many checks and balances built into our system.

  • communists-basher

I sure understand that professional demagogues on this board do not care about the economy or the people. They only care about scoring points with the opposite party. This is exactly what is wrong with this country. They simply choose not to accept the fact that Obama is not a democratic president who follows the constitution but a socialist agent sent to go around the constitution, and thus applying common democratic political practices to his presidency is simply irresponsible and stupid. But of course, the professional politicians and demagogues choose to ignore the facts … because just like mr. Frum they’ll be out of jobs if they did. Notice how the word ‘Socialism’ is not even being used, how the ‘bad economic policies’ keyword has replaced the obvious ’socialist agenda at work’. The longer you choose to ignore the reality the deeper you let this country slide into the oblivion. Obama has you. He and his Bolsheviks figured out long time ago that Democracy ONLY works when everyone follows the rules. But if the rules are bent a little, and if your opponents are smeared as racists and bigots, one can go around the normal democratic process and get the results that are not expected under the democratic rule while demagogue-ing the sheeple into believing that this is the ‘change’ they wanted, thus justifying the means of bending the rules. Obama has to be in jail, not on the debate floor. There is nothing to debate with the Socialist. As an outsider, I can tell that Glen Beck is one of sane persons in this country. There are others but they are not on tv. My only hope that just like Soros has worked his magic, there are people on the Capitalism side who work behind the scene to restore it.
