Although conservatives should be glad that David Cameron is talking of "austerity" for Britain's near-future, the Conservative Party offers little in the way of conservatism. And a clean Tory victory is not guaranteed. A recent poll showed the Tories deflating to about 37 % with the Liberal Democrats up to 26 % and Labour at 25%, albeit that the poll was taken after the LD's Conference with all the ballhoo that goes with such media events. It might be that the Tories will win a plurality in the General Election next year but not enough parliamentary seats to govern on its own. An alliance with Ulster Protestants might be required or possible Scottish or Welsh Nationalists. I expect that minor parties will increase their tallies in 2010 with the UKIP and the BNP taking votes from the Tories producing no seats for themselves but depriving seats from the Tories and awarding them to the Liberal Democrats and Labour.
