BP’s CEO has drawn renewed outrage due to how is spending his time since he stopped dealing with the Gulf oil leak:
BP officials on Saturday scrambled yet again to respond to another public relations challenge when their embattled chief executive, Tony Hayward, spent the day off the coast of England watching his yacht compete in one of the world’s largest races.
Two days after Mr. Hayward angered lawmakers on Capitol Hill with his refusal to provide details during testimony about the worst offshore oil spill in United States history, and one day after BP’s chairman said the chief executive would not be as involved in daily operations in the Gulf of Mexico, Mr. Hayward sparked new controversy from afar.
“He is having some rare private time with his son,” a BP spokeswoman, Sheila Williams, said in a telephone interview on Saturday.
But Rahm Emanuel, the White House chief of staff, who taped an interview for ABC’s “This Week,” called Mr. Hayward’s attendance at the race “part of a long line of P.R. gaffes and mistakes” that he has made.
“To quote Tony Hayward, he’s got his life back,” Mr. Emanuel said.

…….yeah he should have gone into a trappist monastery for nine months to meditate upon his sins……judging by media comment this is becoming the biggest cry baby nation in the world

Let’s face it: there is nothing he can do now that will reverse the opinion of him left by his evasive performance in DC the other day (that, and the spill in the Gulf). When people criticize Obama for playing golf I think to myself, “thank god he has an outlet”: with the amount of pressure he is under, exercise or a friendly game of golf is essential to maintaining sanity; I think the same applies to Hayward. His problem is that he is insensitive to how things look. If he had gone for a private sail with his son, that would be fine; but going to watch the yacht he co-owns in a race on pristine water across the pond is so symbolic of his disregard for the Gulf region and its inhabitants, it’s hard not to notice or mention it.

So what if he’s watching a yacht race? The really newsworthy comment in this article is that Rahm Emmanuel thinks it’s a PR gaffe, when his boss is playing endless rounds of golf. Obama seems to love the perks of the office but doesn’t seem to understand the job description.

Bringng these CEOs in front of “lawmakers” only makes the “lawmakers” look stupid. They don’t know what the hell they are talking about.

The reality is that both the financial crisis and deep sea drilling are techincally far beyond most people’s expertise.
