Governor Haley Barbour’s press secretary resigned today after Politico reported that he’d circulated off-color jokes about the Japan earthquake and former Attorney General Janet Reno, his office said in a curt statement today.
Barbour Press Secretary Dan Turner, a former reporter and Hill staffer who held the job since 2008, included those jokes in his Friday press round up. Similar lines had been a regular feature of his early-morning emails to other Barbour staffers and allies. One late December email included a joke about the Cambodian genocide.
Turner told me this morning that Barbour receives printed versions of the clips, not the email, and took full responsibility for the comments.
