In a radio interview that Think Progress managed to find and transcribe, Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann makes the peculiar assertion that America should avoid joining a “Global Economy” because it might lead to a “one world government.”
Look how that played out in the European Union when they bound all of those nations economies together and one of the smallest economies, Greece, when they got into trouble, that one little nation is bringing down the entire EU. Well, President Obama is trying to bind the United States into a global economy where all of our nations come together in a global economy. I don’t want the United States to be in a global economy where, where our economic future is bound to that of Zimbabwe. I can’t, we can’t necessarily trust the decisions that are being made financially in other countries.
So I think clearly this is a very bad direction because when you join the economic policy of different nations, it is one short step to joining political unity and then you would have literally, a one world government.”

Does this woman understand the difference between ‘one government’ and ‘one currency’? And does she realize our economic future is based on the success or failure of economies like China or Japan where a large portion of our exports and imports go or come from? The fact she is reelected every two years shows the ignorance and stupidity of her constituents.

So Bachmann is in agreement with the radical left-wing anti-globalization movement? Was she rioting in Toronto last week?

My God, this woman is so full of shit, it is really unbelievable. What an embarrassment for the GOP. She needs to go.
Gus // Jun 30, 2010 at 1:51 pm
Ah, but Mark, she wins elections. Nothing else is important in politics today.

What a moron…
I thought Minnesota was one of the “smart” states – and yet they elect this woman?
Her district must be the Red Part of Minnesota…

How come the stupidest women in the GOP are the most visible?
For that matter, how come the stupidest men in the GOP are the most visible?

LFC: How come the stupidest women in the GOP are the most visible?
This is a good question. A Christine Todd Whitman pretty much disappears from view, only to be trotted out once in awhile to suggest that there are some moderate Republicans. See – look! Snowe and Collins get attention for almost being willing to vote on one piece of legislation or another, then quickly are ignored once again. Kay Bailey Hutchison actually tried her hardest to sound stupid during the Texas Gubernatorial Primary, but Rick Perry outstupided her and won the primary easily (though he’s now virtually tied with ex-Houston Mayor Bill White in the polls, even if White is wholly uninspiring as a candidate). We’re hearing a reasonable amount about Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina out in California, but let’s see if they have any ability to influence the party if they don’t win their races.
Then again, it is fair to note that Maxine Waters gets too much attention as well.

Hopefully, she won’t win re-election. She came very close to losing last time for attacking her opponent on religious grounds with a tasteless (and misinformed) ad; hopefully, she will talk herself right out of office. She is worse than ignorant or uneducated on the issues; she is delusional.

She may get a lot of attention but then there are many women in the Democratic Party who are not stupid and get attention: Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Feinstein, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz just to name a few who are often on television.

I’m not sure why Republican leadership puts up with this?
I keep hoping a leader will emerge in the party to bring us back from the edge but nothing so far……..
I am almost willing to go back to compassionate (liberal) conservatism.

Funny…. wasn’t it George W. H. Bush who got the ball rolling with NAFTA? Wouldn’t she consider NAFTA to being a stepping stone to one global government? Shouldn’t she be criticizing the former President and her party for having supported such?
Oh. I’m sorry.
I was expecting rational thought and logic, which is clearly not her thing.

The GOP has given up trying to appeal to educated women. Since it’s the Blue areas that have a preponderance of female postgraduates, those areas are viewed by the GOP base with suspicion as unreachable anyway.
So instead the GOP appeals to the less educated parts of the country, where guns, God and gays are the motivators. Female candidates like Pamela Gorman (candidate for AZ-03):

Pamela Gorman may actually be bright, for all I know. But she sure tries hard not to sound that way.
