It’s been an exciting week here at NewMajority. It was just Feb. 27 that Rush Limbaugh declared in his speech at CPAC that would-be Republican reformers must be stamped out. Since then, we’ve had some exciting exchanges with Rush and his many, many admirers, supporters and dependents. The issues at stake could not be more important. Shall conservatives and Republicans subside into a movement of cultural protest? Or shall we restore ourselves as a grand national governing coalition?
This discussion has now reached close to 300,000 unique visitors here at NewMajority. We’re very excited by the continuing improvement in our various wonky web metrics: average duration of a visit to the site, number of pages read, that kind of thing. Above all, we are all of us here at FF gratified by our array of new writers and valued independent commenters.
We are planning further improvements. I hope everyone has seen Tim Mak’s excellent “At the Trough” series over on the right hand side of the page, updated regularly with new outrages from the Congress’ spending plans.
In the coming weeks, we’ll be making more changes: a redesign that will ease navigation around the site; new video features; and reader diaries that will put our commenters on the front page, where they belong. We’ll keep you informed as we go. And thanks to all who have come by to read, to comment, to contribute – or to dissent.

danbmil99: The change in thinking here is to accept the atmosphere and ocean as finite resources, just as the land is. In Adam Smith’s day, the population was sparse, industry had only scratched the surface of what the land could produce, and many parts of the world were still alien, exotic and unexplored. Back then, capitalism could adopt a first approximation of an infinite ocean and an infinite atmosphere. Today, with 7 billion people on Earth, anything someone does somewhere else can pollute the ocean and atmosphere over here. It took us a very long time to accept a finite ocean, having to put restrictions on overfishing and on polluting the ocean. It’s going to take even longer to accept that the atmosphere is not infinite either.

Okay……I am so tired of all this defend rush limbaugh nonsense. This is why the conservative movement is on it’s death bed.Like glenn beck says’SAY what you mean and do what you say’.
You know why people are so fed up with washington….cause they have shown that they are truely politicians.Like bill clinton siad’it dependss on what the meaning of is….IS.’now the repubs and conservs are the same way….one is pepsi and the other is coke…..both cola.there is no other part…brothers and sisters from the same family.
Rush is of that same family.I will listen to someone when they critize thier own family, party, company, group…when that institution does not stand for the values that it’s suppose to stand on.
ANY RUSH DEFENDER…..Give me one link, one example when Rush, hannity, levin, other republican/conservative…..Wanted bush to fail in increasing government spending(Bailouts),expanding government(D of hom.sec, presciption drug),socialism(nationalizing banks)….mismangement of the war or katrina.WHere was the outrage over george bush…..if you can’t give any examples than how can you defend these people like rush now?
